This policy explains how Canarywire, a service operated by Alomco Ltd ("we", "us"), collects and uses personal data, and your rights under UK data protection law (the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018). Alomco Ltd is the data controller.
It covers three groups: (a) subscribers and account holders who sign up to a Canarywire feed; (b) business contacts at organisations we may contact about our service; and (c) visitors to canarywire.co.uk.
To tell relevant organisations about Canarywire, we hold business contact details (organisation name, a generic or role-based business email, business address) for corporate bodies, compiled from public sources such as official registers and organisations' own public websites. We contact corporate subscribers and prospects on a business-to-business basis; every message includes an unsubscribe option, and opt-outs are recorded on a suppression list and honoured across all our feeds.
Standard server logs (IP address, browser type, pages requested) for security and to understand site usage. We do not use tracking pixels in our alert emails.
The content of our alerts is drawn from official UK public registers (for example the Care Quality Commission and the Home Office register of licensed sponsors) made available under the Open Government Licence v3.0, and from Companies House. The subjects of alerts are organisations and their directors as publicly recorded on those registers. This information is already public; we compile, match and deliver it.
We use a small number of processors to run the service: Stripe (payments), Microsoft 365 and/or Amazon Web Services (SES) (email delivery), and our hosting provider. We do not sell your personal data. We may disclose data where required by law.
Some processors (e.g. Stripe, Microsoft, AWS) may process data outside the UK. Where they do, transfers are protected by appropriate safeguards such as the UK International Data Transfer Agreement or adequacy decisions.
Account data is kept for the life of your account and for as long as needed for legal, tax and accounting purposes afterwards. Suppression-list entries (opt-outs) are kept indefinitely so we can continue to honour your request not to be contacted.
You have the right to access, correct, erase, restrict or object to our use of your personal data, and to data portability. To exercise any of these, email hello@canarywire.co.uk. You can unsubscribe from any Canarywire email at any time using the opt-out in the message. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).
We use only essential cookies needed to keep you signed in to your dashboard. We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.
We may update this policy; the "last updated" date above will change. Material changes affecting subscribers will be notified by email.
